ANTON BENSON

Anton Benson was born to Peter and Charlotte Milton Benson April 10, 1900 in New York City. He came, with his parents to southern Minn. when he was three years old. They lived for a short time in Cottonwood County and then moved to their farm in Murray Co. Anton attended school in Dist. 105, Murray Co, and then Westbrook High School. He and Amy Nelsen were married on Oct. 1, 1930. He then took over his fathers farm and lived there until 1961 when they retired and moved into Westbrook. He served on the Dist. 105 school board for many years until the school closed. Anton also served on the Westbrook Hosp. board and as both deacon and trustee of Trinity Luth. Church in Westbrook.

Amy attended school in Dist. 108 and Dist. 25 and graduated from Westbrook High in 1925. She then attended the Normal Training Department at Fulda, Mn. There were no school buses then, so Amy and her sister Ethel drove a horse 6 miles to Westbrook, to school, each day. Amy then taught in the same schools she had attended. She had 6 first cousins, a second cousin, two sisters and a brother in her classes. Amy was a 4H leader for 5 years. She is still active in the ALCW at Trinity Luth. Church. She has served as treasurer and takes part in the circles and sews many quilts and quilt tops for the Dorcas Circle, which is for mission work. Anton and Amy celebrated their Golden Ann. in 1980. They are the parents of two sons, who both atended Dist 105 and graduated from Westbrook High School. They both served in the army, Roger in Korea and Ronald at Fairbanks, Alaska.

Roger married Carolyn Busswitz on Oct 1, 1961 and took over the farm, which he still farms with the aid of his son. They have 3 children. Shelley, who enlisted after graduating from Westbrook High, and is now serving in the U.S. Army in Calif. Tammy, who contracted Spinal Meningitis at 5 months, and is now in Willmar State Hosp, and Erik in Jr High at Westbrook.

Ronald lost a hand in a cornpicker accident a year after getting out of the Army. He then went to Dunwoody Institute and got a job in Minneapolis. He married Eleanor Leseman in 1960, and lives near Buffalo, Mn. They have a son, Alan and a daughter Lynn, who attend High School in Rockford, Mn.
