Ned NELSEN was born to Jens and Sine NELSEN at Linn Grove, Iowa on Feb. 4, 1883. He moved, with his parents and brothers and sisters, to Minnesota in 1899. He married Anna BUSK in 1904 and began farming for himself in Murray county, except for 3 or 4 years. He retired and moved into Westbrook in 1943. They were the parents of 12 children. One daughter, Elizabeth Ann, died at age four. The others are: Amy, Mrs. Anton BENSON, Ethel, Mrs. August COHRS, Leslie, married Luella FRANZ, Irene, Mrs. Russell STURGES of Currie, Vivian, Mrs. Albert SCHAUER of Windom, Lloyd married Ellen RACHUY, Vera, Mrs. Reuben LARSON, Donald married Gladys SPIELMAN, Pea Ridge, Ark., Nina, Mrs. Bernard FRANZ, Crystal, MN. Ardys, Mrs. Aubrey DENNIS, Saltillo, Tx., and James, married Donna JENNIGES, St. Paul. The rest of the children live in Westbrook and all except for Nina and Ardys farmed in the Murray Co. area. Before their marriages, Amy became a teacher and Ethel a registered nurse. Don served in the Army in WW II in Kodiak, Alaska, and Germany and is now with the Post Office. Nina and Ardys worked in an aircraft factory in Texas during WW II and Jim served in the Army and is now a district manager of Bell Telephone Co.

At the time of Ned's death they had 48 grandchildren, over 100 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Ned died in 1980, close to his 97th birthday, and Anna died May 1st, 1973.
