Ned P. NELSEN

WESTBROOK (Special) -- Funeral was held here Monday from Trinity Lutheran church for Ned P. NELSEN, 96, who died Jan. 12. The Rev. Victor SCHMIDT officiated. Interment was in Westbrook cemetery.

Mr. NELSEN was born Feb. 4, 1883 at Linn Grove, Iowa, the son of Jens and Sina PETERSEN NELSEN, coming to Murray county with his parents at the age of 17.

He and Anna Hansina BUSK were married Nov. 9, 1904. They farmed in Des Moines River township until 1943, when they moved into Westbrook. She preceded him in death May 1, 1973.

He is survived by four sons, Leslie and Lloyd, Westbrook; Donald, Pea Ridge, Ark., and James, St. Paul, and seven daughters, Mrs. Anton BENSON (Amy), Mrs. August COHRS (Ethel) and Mrs. Reuben LARSON (Vera), Westbrook; Mrs. Russell STURGES (Irene), Currie; Mrs. Albert SCHAUER (Vivian), Windom; Mrs. Aubrey DENNIS (Ardys), Saltillo, Texas, and Mrs. Bernard FRANZ (Nina), Crystal.

He is also survived by 48 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Victor, Westbrook. One daughter, one grandchild, five great-grandchildren, five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Services held for Ned Nelsen

Funeral Services were held Monday, January 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Westbrook, for Ned P. Nelsen who passed away January 12, 1980. Rev. Victor Schmidt officiated at the 11:00 a.m. services.

Pallbearers were Marlowe Nelsen, Rodney Nelsen, Gene Larson, Roger Benson, Larry Schauer and Joel Franz.

Interment at Westbrook Cemetery.

Ned Nelsen

Ned Nelsen, one of Westbrook's oldest residents passed away at the home of his son, Leslie on Saturday morning, January 12th. He had spent two weeks in the hospital with double pneumonia but had recovered enough to return home on Wednesday. He passed away in his sleep on Saturday morning at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 8 days.

Ned Nelsen was born February 4, 1883 to Jens and Sina Petersen Nelsen at Linn Grove, Iowa. He came to Murray County with his parents at the age of 17. On Nov. 9, 1904 he was married to Anna Hansina Busk. To this union 12 children were born. All but Betty Ann, who died at 4 years of age, survive. He spent all his adult life in the Westbrook community with the exception of one year in South Dakota. He retired from his farm in 1943 to Westbrook where he has lived since. His wife passed away May 1, 1973.

He is survived by 4 sons, Leslie and Lloyd of Westbrook, Donald of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, James of St. Paul; seven daughters, Amy (Mrs. Anton Benson), Ethel (Mrs. August Cohrs), Vera (Mrs. Reuben Larson), all of Westbrook, Irene (Mrs. Russell Sturges) Currie, Vivian (Mrs. Albert Schauer) of Windom, Nina (Mrs. Bernard Franz) of Crystal, and Ardys (Mrs. Aubrey Dennis) of Saltillo, Texas; 48 grandchildren, 104 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; and one brother, Victor Nelsen of Westbrook.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, one grandchild, 5 great grandchildren, and 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
