N. P. Nelsens Observe Golden Wedding

A most perfect November day added to the occasion when over a hundred relatives and friends helped Mr. and Mrs. Ned P. Nelsen observe their golden wedding anniversary by attending open house at their home in Westbrook on Sunday afternoon, November 7.

The couple were married at Summit, South Dakota, November 9, 1904.

They are the parents of 11 living children and one daughter, Betty Ann, who passed away in 1930 at the age of four. The other children who were all present are : Amy (Mrs. Anton Benson), Ethel (Mrs. August Cohrs), Leslie, Irene (Mrs. Russell Sturges), Vivian (Mrs. Albert Schauer), Lloyd, Vera (Mrs. Reuben Larson), Donald, Nina (Mrs. Bernard Franz), Ardys (Mrs. Aubrey Dennis), and James. They have 42 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

For the occasion, Mrs. Nelsen wore a blue dress with a corsage of red roses. Mr. Nelsen wore a dark blue suit with a white chrysanthemum boutonniere.

Some of the older granddaughters had charge of the guest book.

The daughters and daughters-in-law served a buffet lunch. Mrs. Anton Benson and Mrs. William Busk poured. Mrs. August Cohrs and Mrs. David Busk cut and served the wedding cake.

The decorations consisted of a gold candle holder, a three-tiered wedding cake decorated with gold roses and topped with a golden bell, a white chrysanthemum plant and a bouquet of red roses.

The Nelsens farmed near Westbrook most of their married life, retiring to move into Westbrook in September of 1943.
