HARRISON STURGES

Harrison STURGES was born at Kankakee, Illinois, Feb. 2, 1884, to Robert and Barbara STURGES. He was united in marriage to Esther ANDERSON. To this union three daughters were born: Bernice, Myra and Dorothy. Harrison was united in marriage to Laura HALLMER. To this union five daughters and two sons were born: Mary Ann, Virginia, Susan, Sally, Mildred, Thomas and William. Harrison farmed his entire life in Murray County near Slayton until the time of his death Saturday evening, August 1, 1970, at the Pipestone County Hospital. He had reached the age of 86 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Survivors are his wife Laura of Woodstock; two sons: H.M. I Thomas H. of the U.S. Navy in Japan and William R. of Woodstock; eight daughters: (Bernice) Mrs. Clarence JOHNSON of Murdock, Minnesota, (Myra) Mrs. Paul JOHNSON of Stillwater, Minnesota, (Dorothy) Mrs. Wallis SIMONIC of Joliet, Illinois, (Mary Ann) Mrs. Ralph HACKERT of Sturgis, South Dakota, (Virginia) Mrs. Dean ASBURY of Selfridge Air Force Base, Michigan, Miss Susan STURGES of Worthington, Minnesota, (Sally) Mrs. Curt DUNCAN of Mt Vernon, South Dakota, and Miss Mildred STURGES of Woodstock. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Esther.

Services were held at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Woodstock at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 1970, with Father Cyril PETERSON officiating. Music was furnished by St. Martin's Choir and Mrs. Stella LINGEN, organist. Pallbearers were Oscar N. SWAN, Don PRIEBE, George BULDHAUPT, Paul KITTELSON, Ivan DATHER, and George HOLCK. Place of interment was St. Martin's Cemetery.
