Marriage records for Lewis Bend and Jane Sturgis differ:
Lewis Bend's obituary infers that they were married in DeKalb County after he arrived in about 1854.
An account on page 518 of the Biographical Record of DeKalb County, Illinois, 1898 states that they were married in Ohio in 1854.
The Portrait and Biographical Album of DeKalb County, Illinois, 1885, states that they were married 1 September 1852 in Scotsville, New York.
Since it is family lore that the oldest child Mary Ann was not his biological child and she was born February 3, 1853, it is more likely that they were married someplace in 1854.
