Obituary (The Franklin Sentinel, Dec. 21, 1944 3:3)
William Sturgis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sturgis, was born on January 20, 1877, at Leland, Ill and passed away at the hospital in Omaha, December 19, 1944 at the age of 67 years 10 months and 22 days.
He came to Franklin county with his parents when a boy and made his home here until 1911 when he moved to Bird City, Kansas. Later he moved to Stratton where he has made his home the past 19 years.
He was united in marriage to Goldie Mae Jones in 1906. To this union five children were born, one of who passed away in infancy.
Surviving are three sons, Floyd, Foster and Farrell, and one daughter, Mrs Velma Brown, all of Akron, Colo. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs Mary Hudson of Lincoln, Mrs. Eliza Boyce of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs Nels Hensen of Minitaire; five grandchildren and several nieces, and nephews and many friends. Two nieces, Mrs. Marvin Stover and Mrs. Sandy Meade, are Franklin county residents.
Pallbearers were Sandy Meade, Marvin Stover, L.C. Loomis, Farrell, Floyd and Foster Sturgis.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at 3:00 at the Hutchins Funeral Home with Rev. M.R. Willis in charge. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Loomis, Mrs F. Gunn and Mrs. Mary Hudson, all of Lincoln, Mrs Nels Jensen of Minitaire, Floyd, Foster and Farrell Stugis and Mrs. Velma Brown, all of Akron, Colo.

Cause of death: Pulmary thrombosis, cartiac hypertrophy and decompression hypersensitive cardiovascular disease.
