George Peter Frank was born Peter George Frank on 5 March 1842 at Kirchbeefurth, Hessen Darmstadt, Germany. He came to America in 1860 or 1861 at the age of 18 or 19 and located in Springfield, (Clark), Ohio. Shortly after his arrival, Mr. Frank enlisted as a private in the Union forces and fought through the Civil War. He served with Company "H" of the 44th Ohio Volunteer Infantry from 18 September 1861 to 5 January 1864. The unit was then reorganized at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, as the 8th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. He served with this unit from 5 January 1864 until 30 July 1865. He was promoted to corporal on 11 May 1864 and honorably discharged on 30 July 1865 at Clarksburgh, West Virginia. While in the service George Frank received several wounds and later (19 March 1880) filed for a pension.
After the war, George Frank returned to Springfield, (Clark), Ohio. On 8 October 1866 he became a naturalized citizen. No papers of Declaration of Intent were needed because of his military service. On 18 April 1869 he was married by to Regina Honefinger. Nine children (7 boys and 2 girls) were born to this couple.
George Frank used part of his bounty money from the Civil War to get into the retail grocery business (G.P. Frank & Co., a grocery and saloon at 115 West Main St., Springfield) with John Troutman.
George Frank’s wife Jennie was a lifetime resident of Springfield. She was a prominent member of the Zion Lutheran Church, and was counted one of its foremost workers. Jennie died at her home on 1 June 1908 of diabetus militus. George Frank died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 2 May 1928 at the age of 86 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Patterson, 315 N. Race St., Springfield.
George Frank was a member of the Zion Lutheran church and was the post chaplain of the Mitchell Post, GAR.
John Peter Frank was born on 15 February 1882 in Springfield (Clark County), Ohio. John married Mary Loretta O'Connor who was born 19 March 1880 in Ohio. John and Mary had two sons - John Ted Frank and Robert Frederick Frank. John Peter Frank died on 8 September 1958 in Dayton (Montgomery County), Ohio and his wife Mary died 21 May 1964, also in Dayton, Ohio. They are both buried in the Calvary cemetery in Dayton.
