Enos M. COOPER was born about August 1818 in Madison County, Kentucky. On 11 January 1844 he married Rachel K. COOPER in Covington (Kenton County) Kentucky. James ARNOLD, a Justice of the Peace, performed the ceremony. Two children (1 boy and 1 girl) were born to this couple. The family moved to Cincinnati (Hamilton County) Ohio, about 1855.
On 23 August 1862 Mr. COOPER and his son Benjamin Franklin COOPER both enlisted in Company 'L' of the 4th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. At his enlistment Enos COOPER is described as; age 44, height 5 feet 10 inches, light complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. His occupation at enlistment is given as teamster. Although listed as a private on the Muster-in-Roll, he is listed as a corporal on the rest of the rolls.
Enos COOPER was wounded in the right arm in battle at Middleton, Tennessee, on 22 May 1863. He was taken to the field hospital at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where typhoid fever set in and he died 25 June 1863, aged 44 years and 10 months. He was interred in the National Cemetery (grave number 1015) at Stone River, Tennessee. His widow, Rachel K. COOPER, applied for a widow's pension and was granted $8.00 per month commencing 25 June 1863.
